I create situations where many different permutations of one piece of art is possible and where the audience is given (or forced to have) agency in the reading of the work. I hope that the experience of creating meaning may extend to the world at large. My art invites the people around me to grasp the power they have to change the world albeit in small ways, by imagining something that previously did not exist.
Escape pods or self-reliant, floating, mobile-homes sail and teeter over the imploding civilization around it. Out of the wreckage of the crumbling American dream I am imagining composite alternative realities for living with or without each other. Chicago is full of rust colored structures shaping the skyline but serving little purpose in contemporary life. How can we interact with the aging vestigial elements of modern industry? Contemporary life is mutating our relationships with each other, ourselves and the earth. Can we save the earth or do we need to find a way of adapting to its demise?
